May 22, 2013, Brooklyn, NY…NYU Lutheran and its Board of Trustees hosted the 130th Annual Dinner Dance on May 18 and raised a record amount of funds! Over $1.3 million ($1,340,840, to date) was raised to benefit renovation and expansion of NYU Lutheran Medical Center's Mental Health Emergency Department. This year's event honored Dr. Pierre G. Zalzal (posthumously), senior attending neurologist, LMC; Kevin A. Lobo, president and CEO of the Stryker Corporation; and Lena Dunham, creator, director, writer and star of HBO's "Girls."
More than 900 guests dined and danced the night away at the Brooklyn-themed event held at Chelsea Piers' Pier Sixty. The star studded gala was attended by a who's who of local celebrities including Dr. Ruth Westheimer; pianists Alessio Bax and Lucille Chung; guitarist of the Grammy-Award winning band Fun., Jack Antonoff; clothing designer, Rachel Antonoff; HBO stars including Tony Sirico of "The Sopranos" and Dominic Chianese of "The Sopranos" and "Boardwalk Empire." Members of the cast and crew of "Girls" in attendance included executive producer Judd Apatow, and cast members Alex Karpovsky and Zosiah Mamet.
For the sixth year, the event was emceed by Michael Gargiulo, WNBC anchor. Highly-coveted silent auction prizes included a set visit to HBO's "Girls," a chance to meet the members of the band, Fun., a personalized tour of the Jacques Torres Chocolate Factory, vacation packages, one-of-a-kind jewelry items and much more.
