…NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers organized its twelfth annual Back to School Blast on September 5 at Martin Luther Playground with hundreds of community members in attendance. Children formed long lines on the playground awaiting giveaways and provisions for another year of school.
Community based programs such as the FDNY, the Brooklyn Public Library, HealthPlex, NYU Lutheran Medical Center's Pharmacy, Lutheran's Pedestrian and Bike Safety team and more were on site providing families with health and wellness information, dental screenings, and immunizations. Also available were fun activities such as face or arm painting and puppet making.
HealthPlus Amerigroup, the event's sponsor, distributed over 650 backpacks complete with school supplies including rulers, highlighters, pens, toothbrushes, toothpastes, and floss. Dental screenings were also provided to 118 children, free of cost.
"Lutheran's Back to School Blast is always a well-attended event staffed by our employees and community-based partners," said Yoly Bazile, NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers' director of Managed Care/Corporate Compliance and coordinator of the Back to School Blast. "The wealth of information provided at our Back to School Blast, regarding immunizations and physical exams, as well as school supplies, are greatly appreciated by our patients and the community."
