October 18, 2013, Brooklyn, NY…Lutheran HealthCare has received top ranking in Axial Exchange, Inc.'s New York Patient Engagement Index (PEI), that ranks U.S. hospitals based on an analysis of publically available data in three categories: personal health management, patient satisfaction and social media engagement. Lutheran ranked number eight out of 83 hospitals in the state.
"Organizations like Lutheran HealthCare are helping to make patient engagement a top priority in the health care industry, which is critical to improving quality and lowering cost of care for everyone," said Joanne Rohde, CEO of Axial Exchange. "Axial is committed to raising awareness of the benefits of patient engagement. We hope the data and benchmarks that we provide through our Patient Engagement Indices will help support organizations as they work to evaluate and improve their patient engagement programs."
By enabling patients to access their health information at their own level and learn at their pace, these top ranking hospitals are able to achieve reduced readmissions, improved patient satisfaction scores, and increased patient loyalty, which all leads to better care and lower costs for everyone.
Lutheran Family Health Centers, the health system's federally qualified community health center network, is rolling out its first Patient Portal this year. This will offer patients easy access to their personal health records through a secure network. "It's extremely exciting for us since the new portal will enable our patients to communicate with their provider and access health information over the Internet," said Larry K. McReynolds, LFHC executive director. "Additionally, our providers will be able to send patients appointment reminders, medication refills, education materials, lab results and more electronically." Lutheran's patient portal also features a smartphone application for iPhones and Android devices. View the patient portal and smart phone app here: http://bit.ly/1ajHsmp.
"As health systems move toward embracing new models like patient-centered medical homes and population health, it's becoming increasingly critical for them to focus on improving patient engagement through new technologies," said Karen Lennon, EVP of Patient and Community Engagement. "It's our goal to continue to transform care by emphasizing care coordination and communication between patients and their providers. We are developing better relationships with our patients through new tools like patient portals and social media."
