February 21, 2013, Brooklyn, NY…
Charles A. Archer, Esq., a NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers Board of Trustees member and CEO of the Evelyn Douglin Center for Serving People in Need (EDCSPIN), Inc., recently donated 500 books to LFHC's Reach Out and Read program and sat down for a read aloud for children at the NYU Lutheran Sunset Park Family Health Center for Women and Children. Thanks to Mr. Archer's generous gift, children who visit NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers will enjoy a new collection of children's books in their waiting rooms.
"As a CEO, attorney, and author, I credit reading to who I have become," said Mr. Archer. "Books were and still are critical to the building of my sense of well-being. In working with Reach Out and Read children in conjunction with Lutheran, the objective is that the children will garner the skills needed to perform better scholastically and have a healthy level of self-esteem."
Mr. Archer received a tour of the site and met with NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers' leadership including Larry K. McReynolds, president of LFHC; Kathy Hopkins, SVP, Community Based Programs; Judy McLaughlin, R.N., MS, VP, Network Operations and Women's Health; Claudette Richardson, site director; Aleida Kasir, program director, LFHC Community Based Programs and Jennifer Ching, program coordinator, LFHC Reach Out and Read.
LFHC's Reach Out and Read program is coordinated by NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers' Sunset Park AmeriCorps Community HealthCorps program and always welcomes new book donations and individuals interested in volunteering to read to children in our health centers.
