NYU Lutheran Medical Center has partnered with SUNY Downstate to host an Emergency Medicine residency program. The shared program will host four residents at a time who will team up with our emergency medicine attendings working in the most critical areas of the ED including the trauma bay, riding along with our LMC paramedics and training in the OR alongside our anesthesiologists. Third year resident, Sally Bogoch, M.D., (bottom right) was thrilled about spending two weeks on our LMC ambulances with our paramedics. “It’s been a wonderful experience so far. The team does fabulous work in very difficult conditions while answering calls. It really has been a great teaching opportunity.”
Bonnie Simmons, D.O., chair, Emergency Medicine, (at left) attributed this new partnership to Lutheran’s strong departments of trauma, stroke, cardiac and critical care and explained that this new program, which has been in the works for several years, proves “that Lutheran is committed to academic emergency medicine with carved out time for both formal and bedside teaching.” Seen here are the first round of residents.
