Food Network Chef and Author, Daisy Martinez, to Guest Judge LFHC’s National Health Center Week Healthy Cook-off!

LFHC will host a Wellness Fair on August 10 in honor of National Health Center Week. Lutheran defines health as the total well-being of the community and its residents. LHC's 127th Anniversary Dinner Dance Raises Over $1.2 Million

Lutheran HealthCare was the big winner at its black tie casino night fundraiser. Attended by more than 900 partygoers, the 127th Anniversary Dinner Dance raised over $1.2 million to benefit the implementation of the medical center's electronic medical record (EMR) system.

LMC's Cardiac Center Earns Praise

The May Ellen and Gerald Ritter Cardiology Center has recently earned some high praise from a very special person, its first elective PCI patient! Domenico Martinelli, pictured with his Lutheran caregivers, took a few minutes during his stay at LMC to thank the 4A, CCL, and nursing education RNs earlier this month. As you can see in the photo, everyone was pleased! Congratulations to the Cardiology Center team!

LFHC AIDS Clinic Medical Director Reflects on Haiti Mission

Marcelo Venegas-Pizarro, M.D. arrived to Port-Au-Prince amidst the ruins and people out in the streets. Makeshift signs that read "We Need Help..food, water, medications," could be seen every couple of blocks. Makeshift tents of sheets strung across wooden poles dotted the streets.

LMC Orthopedic Chief on Haiti Medical Relief Mission

On Jan. 22, Dr. Tom Lyon, physician chief of Orthopedic Trauma at Lutheran Medical Center, traveled with a team of 19 medical and surgical professionals to Hospital Eleazar Germaine on a relief mission to help those affected by the Haitian earthquake.

Lutheran Family Health Centers’ Patient Navigator Program Serves as a National Demonstration Project

LFHC (one of the nation's largest federally qualified community health center networks) has launched an innovative patient navigator program to help patients with a chronic illness access quality health services, embrace positive health behaviors, and navigate complex treatment regimens. Lutheran's program will specifically focus on adults with diabetes and children who are at risk of developing diabetes.

Lutheran's Own Unsung Hero

Dhanpat has only one name and no one ever forgets it. "Dhan" as he's called, is Lutheran Medical Center's celebrity Patient Care Technician. In 2006 he was featured in the Daily News as one of "New York's 50 Unsung Heroes." More recently Dhan appeared on "The Art of Living," a television show that showcases people over 60 doing great things.

Alternative Medicine

Katie Allison delivered an 8-pound, 4-ounce baby girl without any medication. Instead she chose acupuncture. The mother of three was selected at random to receive free acupuncture during labor. Lutheran's promising new research suggests acupuncture, when administered during labor and delivery, provides for a smoother labor and fewer Cesarean sections.

Advancements in Orthopedics

Before his accident, Chi Wai Lam went to work every day at a hardware store in Sunset Park, played with his two young children and lived a happy, healthy life. All that changed one winter day in 2006, when his lower left leg was shattered. Chi was rushed to Lutheran's Level I Trauma Center where surgeons spent hours carefully extracting pieces of wood from the wound.
