Dr. Ferzli is the chair of the Department of Surgery and senior vice president. He heads the Surgical Weight Loss Institute at Lutheran Medical Center.
Dr. Ferzli is an active professor of surgery at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn and director of the Laparoscopic Surgery Fellowship Program. He has lectured in medical schools and universities as well as operated in hospitals throughout the world (more than 51 cities). He is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and has been repeatedly named one of New York's best doctors by New York Magazine (1998-2006) and regularly appears in Castle Connolly's list of America's top doctors.
Dr. Ferzli has more than 122 peer reviewed published articles to his credit as well as participation in more than ten medical textbooks. As an innovator in minimally invasive surgery, he holds five U.S. patents for laparoscopic surgical instruments. Dr. Ferzli graduated from the St. Joseph University School of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon and completed his residency in general surgery at Staten Island University Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified in surgery and critical care medicine.
