BROOKLYN SCHOOL KIDS CLINCH THE 5-2-1-0 PLAYOFFS WITH THE NETS
5-2-1-0 Plan for Good Health: ADA Endorsed Initiative Combats Childhood Obesity in Brooklyn

April 12, 2010, Brooklyn, NY...NETS, Lutheran Family Health Centers and Health Plus of Brooklyn team up again to host 20 Brooklyn school kids who successfully made the their 5-2-1-0 program goals at a special NETS game on March 31. (The 5-2-1-0 plan for good health means eating five servings of fruits and vegetables, using the TV and computer only two hours a day, getting one hour of exercise every day, and drinking zero sugary drinks.)

Lutheran Family Health Centers' Shoot for Better Health Brooklyn All-Stars Elizabeth Moreno from Public School 169, Jason Ware from Middle School 88, Venicio Pino from Dewey Middle School 136, and Amanda Mieles from Sunset Park High School joined Larry McReynolds, executive director of the Lutheran Family Health Centers; Tom Early, executive director of Health Plus; Leo Ehrline, NETS senior vice-president at center court just before the game.

Elizabeth, Jason, Venicio, and Amanda were the most active in the 5-2-1-0 plan. They embraced the initiative and made sure they ate five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, only used the TV and computer two hours a day, exercised an hour every day, and stayed away from sodas and sugary drinks. Each kept a personal diary for 8 wks to describe what kept them motivated!
