NEW SUNSET PARK FAMILY HEALTH CENTER SITE OFFICIALLY OPENS
Brooklyn newest "medical home" specializes in women's and children's health, and urgent care
April 14, 2010, Brooklyn, NY…On April 9, Lutheran Family Health Centers celebrated the grand opening of the new Sunset Park Family Health Center, located at 5610 Second Avenue. As of April 12, the site is officially open and specializes in women's and children's health and urgent care services.
The 25,000 square foot facility, equipped with state of the art radiology and diagnostic equipment, increases access to breast cancer screening, prenatal sonograms and pediatric services for women and children in Sunset Park. The site also offers extended hours for urgent care and walk-ins during weekends and evenings for non-emergency conditions such as sprains, ear or throat infections, stomach flu or asthma. This initiative is projected to double access to vital health services by treating an additional 6,800 patients, for a total of 82,000 site visits per year.
The grand opening event was attended by more than 100 neighbors, patients, staff and elected officials. Speakers included Wendy Goldstein, president and CEO, Lutheran HealthCare; Larry K. McReynolds, executive director, Lutheran Family Health Centers; Emma Graber Porter, chair, LHC Board of Trustees; Reverend Samuel Fook Wong, chair, Sunset Park Health Council, Inc.; Councilman Vincent Gentile; Councilwoman Sarah Gonzalez; Randolph Peers, executive director of Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow and vice chair of Community Board 7; Maria Castaneda, president and secretary-treasurer, 1199SEIU; and representatives from Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and Senator Marty Golden's offices.
The new location is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To make an appointment, please call 718-630-7942.
