Thalia Pizzarello, LMC Auxiliary member, and Patricia Wander, longtime LMC volunteer and former Auxiliary president, were honored at the United Hospital Fund's 2010 Hospital Auxilian and Volunteer Achievement Awards at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on March 19. Thalia and Patricia were among the 93 honorees nominated from the Fund's beneficiary, not-for-profit hospitals, as well as hospitals of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Wander, a former auxiliary president and luncheon committee member, has volunteered at the information desk for 42 years and has been an active member of the auxiliary throughout this time.
The LMC Auxiliary is an integral part of the LMC family. Started in 1906, the auxiliary supports the work of the medical center through service-oriented projects and fundraising activities. Over the years, Lutheran's auxiliary has donated over $2 million to purchase a new Trauma Services ambulance, multilingual signage for the hospital, renovation of the NICU, renovation and expansion of the ER and recovery rooms and cutting-edge radiation therapy equipment for cancer patients. Funds are raised through the auxiliary gift shop, annual luncheon, special sales and other events.
The men and women of the auxiliary are dedicated to serving patients and their families, supporting medical center staff, helping with community relations, providing health services information and fundraising to support services for patients.
