LMC IS LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD DOGS!
Hospital offers training sessions for Pups for Patients
July 1, 2010, Brooklyn, NY
Lutheran Medical Center recently launched its animal assisted therapy program, Pups for Patients. The ho
spital is now looking for some furry friends to expand this initiative.
Pet therapy uses specially trained therapeutic pets to help promote and complement the healing process for patients, families and caregivers, often resulting in diminished physical and emotional pain in patients. Benefits of animal assisted therapy are widespread and include mental stimulation, elevated mood levels (obtained through a release of dopamine), physical contact and dexterity, socialization and increased awareness and attention span.
Therapy dogs and their handlers must undergo special training in order to join Lutheran's Pups for Patients. If you are interested please call Toni Cesta, 718-630-8692.
