FOOD NETWORK CHEF AND AUTHOR, DAISY MARTINEZ, TO GUEST JUDGE NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK COOK-OFF
August 10 healthy cook-off and wellness fair to be held on Lutheran Lane
August 2, 2010, Brooklyn, NY…Lutheran Family Health Centers will host a cook-off competition and wellness fair on August 10 in honor of National Health Center Week. Food Network star and author, Daisy Martinez, will be the featured special guest judge. The fair will include live cooking demonstrations from Cornell Cooperative Extension, fitness and health insurance information, dental, glucose and blood pressure screenings, raffles, refreshments and more.
The highlight of the event will be a healthy cook-off, featuring entries by Lutheran staff. Judges will include Food Network star and author, Daisy Martinez; Reverend Samuel Fook Wong, chair of the Sunset Park Health Council, Inc.; Tom Early, executive director of Health Plus; Adam Breier, principal of the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism High School at Erasmus; and Larry K. McReynolds, executive director of Lutheran Family Health Centers.
Elected officials have been invited to attend the event as well. The goal of this event is to celebrate Lutheran Family Health Centers and National Health Center Week and to increase the availability and knowledge of nutritious foods to those in Southwest Brooklyn.
The second week of August each year has been designated by the National Association of Community Health Centers as National Health Center Week. This occasion recognizes the service and contributions of community, migrant, homeless and public housing health centers in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people in the U.S.
The wellness fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the cook-off contest at noon, on Lutheran Lane (55th Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues)
