LUTHERAN'S THIRD ANNUAL PERIOPERATIVE CONFERENCE CELEBRATES ENHANCING THE ART OF HEALING AND THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE NURSE

October 5, 2010, Brooklyn, NY…LMC will host its annual perioperative nursing conference at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square on October 16, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. After three years, the annual event has evolved from a conference to an "inspirational experience."

This comprehensive one-day extravaganza is designed for nursing leadership, registered professional nurses, surgical technologists and other health care providers. The focus of the program is to provide current clinical, technical and technological information to enhance the delivery of quality care.

Our featured speaker, Laurie Guest, C.S.P., will present "Managing the Red Carpet: A Show Business Guide to Customer Service in Health Care." The audience will view famous movie scenes and then relate a variety of messages to real life situations. With this Oscar theme, participants will learn award-winning ideas in a unique, entertaining and practical program. The Oscar theme will continue throughout the day. Be prepared to be educated and inspired.

Back by popular demand is "Perioperative (Family) Feud," the interactive game show hosted by co-chairs Jose Hernandez, R.N. and Paula Donaldson, R.N.

Additional session topics include, "Surgical Site Infections: A Growing Change," "Making it Stick: Hard Wiring Change!," "Brachytherapy: Friend or Foe? What You Need to Know," "An Rx for Wellbeing: A Holistic Look at Body, Mind and Spirit," "Leadership is an Art: Do You Inspire?" and "Interdisciplinary Approach to Hip Fracture Management."

Honorees of the day include William Duffy, R.N., M.J. (Health Law), C.N.O.R. and Kristine M. Gebbie, R.N., DR. of PH. Mr. Duffy is the vice president of Nursing for Evanston Hospital, which is part of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Corporation system. He is a past president of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Ms. Gebbie is the Joan Hansen Grabe Dean (Acting) of the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing at Hunter College in New York City.
