With lights, cameras and action, Lutheran HealthCare's (LHC) annual black tie event was a smash success attended by 900 partygoers who helped raise nearly $1 million for health programs and services.
Lutheran HealthCare's annual gala at Chelsea Piers celebrated its 124th anniversary and honored two outstanding individuals who have made a significant difference in health care locally and across the nation: Ardath H. Rodale, chairman of Rodale Inc., (Rodale is the authoritative source for trusted content in health and wellness worldwide); and Issam F. Arnouk, M.D., vice chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at LHC.
The packed event attracted a venerable who's who in New York including local elected officials and Sopranos star, Tony Sirico, who plays Paulie Walnuts on the hit HBO show. Additional highlights included WNBC4 reporter Reg Chapman as the guest emcee and a silent auction with vacation homes in Paris and Mexico, designer jewelry, exclusive collectors items, and tickets to all New York's major sports events.
As LHC's primary fundraiser, the event raises much-needed dollars to support health care services throughout Brooklyn. The honorees received the Sister Elisabeth Fedde (LHC founder) Medal for Service, established to recognize individuals who continue her legacy of service and commitment to the health and well-being of our communities. Lead donors this year were Commerce Bank and Ardath H. Rodale, with additional support from the May Ellen and Gerald Ritter Foundation and Frenkel Benefits, LLC.
More about the honorees: Issam F. Arnouk M.D., has served the LHC health system with great distinction for more than 29 years. As vice chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, he is a well-known and highly regarded Brooklyn physician who has delivered more than 5,000 babies. Ardath H. Rodale is chair of the Board of Rodale Inc., a worldwide publisher of magazines and books, and co-chair of the Board of the Rodale Institute – a global leader in agriculture, food and health. She is author of three books and also writes "Reflections," a monthly column in Prevention Magazine. In August, her fourth book, Everyday Miracles, will be released.
