LUTHERAN'S THIRD ANNUAL PERIOPERATIVE CONFERENCE CELEBRATES ENHANCING THE ART OF HEALING WITH OVER 350 HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS
October 22, 2010, Brooklyn, NY…Lutheran Medical Center hosted its third annual Perioperative Conference on October 16 at the New York Marriott Marquis. Over 350 nurses, nurse managers and other health care professionals from 28 hospitals across New York and New Jersey attended this inspirational experience dedicated to "Enhancing the Art of Healing."
Led by co-chairs, Jose Hernandez, M.S, R.N., vice president, Clinical Operations, and Paula Donaldson, M.S., APRN, CNS, CNOR, assistant director, Operating Room and Radiology, the conference brought a touch of fun to education. Headlining the event was Laurie Guest, C.S.P., who presented "Managing the Red Carpet: A Show Business Guide to Customer Service in Health Care."
Additional session topics included, "Surgical Site Infections: A Growing Change," "Making it Stick: Hard Wiring Change!," "Brachytherapy: Friend or Foe? What You Need to Know," "An Rx for Wellbeing: A Holistic Look at Body, Mind and Spirit," "Leadership is an Art: Do You Inspire?" and "Interdisciplinary Approach to Hip Fracture Management."
Honorees of the day were William Duffy, R.N., M.J. (Health Law), C.N.O.R. and Kristine M. Gebbie, R.N., DR. of PH. Mr. Duffy is the vice president of Nursing for Evanston Hospital, which is part of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare Corporation system. He is a past president of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Ms. Gebbie is the Joan Hansen Grabe Dean (Acting) of the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing at Hunter College in New York City.
