PAGING GOD: RELIGION IN THE HALLS OF MEDICINE
Wendy Cadge, Ph.D., of Brandeis University keynotes sixth annual health and spirituality lecture

October 25, 2010, Brooklyn, NY…Lutheran HealthCare will host its sixth annual Health and Spirituality Lecture on Friday, November 5, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Wendy Cadge, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology at Brandeis University will present this year's lecture, "Paging God: Religion in the Halls of Medicine." The annual event hosted by Lutheran HealthCare, a nationally recognized leader in religiously informed cultural competence, explores the relationships between spirituality, health and healing.

Dr. Cadge has conducted extensive research into the interconnections of medicine and religion, health and faith. The lecture shares a title with her soon to be published book, which examines the historical and current institutional presence of religion and spirituality in hospitals. Cadge earned a Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton University. She was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar in Health Policy Research at Harvard University from 2004 to 2006 and has held tenure-track positions at Bowdoin College and Brandeis University.

In its faith-based mission, Lutheran HealthCare serves a one-of-a-kind community of diverse faith groups throughout southwest Brooklyn. The Mission and Spiritual Care Office of LHC is responsible for the social ministry relationship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), mission effectiveness, pastoral/spiritual care, and relationships with congregations and faith based organizations.
