LFHC, HEALTH PLUS AND NETS TEACH LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN TO SHOOT FOR BETTER HEALTH

LUTHERAN FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS, HEALTH PLUS AND NETS BASKETBALL TEACH LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN TO SHOOT FOR BETTER HEALTH
ADA endorsed initiative combats childhood obesity

November 1, 2010, Brooklyn, NY…On October 28, approximately 400 students from four local schools joined at PS 169 to greet NETS basketball legend Daryl Dawkins and to learn how to improve fitness and dietary habits by scoring a perfect 5-2-1-0 every day. The third annual Shoot for Better Health tip-off featured a Dance Dance Revolution demonstration, as well as appearances by the NETS dancers and Sly, the team's mascot.

How kids can score a perfect 5-2-1-0: Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables, limit TV and computer time to two hours a day, get at least an hour of exercise a day, and cut out soda or sugar sweetened drinks. As a major contributor to the program's success, the NETS will also host a full-day basketball clinic and a reward night to honor 5-2-1-0 participants at Izod Center in the spring of 2011.
