LUTHERAN MEDICAL CENTER RESIDENTS TAKE TOP RESEARCH HONORS AT AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION MEETING
December 3, 2010, Brooklyn, NY…Two Lutheran Medical Center (LMC) residents, Wah Wah Htun, M.D., and Carla Sue McWilliams, M.D., recently won first place awards in two separate categories at the 34th Interim Assembly Meeting of American Medical Association (AMA) in San Diego, beating out over ninety other presentations from medical centers across the country.
Dr. Htun won first prize for her case report podium presentation: "Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection in a 21 Year Old Male: a Case Report" and Dr. McWilliams won first prize for her poster presentation: "Rapid Response Team (RRT) Within 48 Hours of Admission."
"Given the fact that dozens of residents and fellows from across the country entered research projects at the annual meeting, it's a tremendous honor that not one, but two, of our own residents won first prize awards," said George T. Martin, M.D., LMC's chair of the Department Medicine. "It proves that we are performing first-class medical research here at Lutheran Medical Center."

The AMA's resident and fellow section is the largest organization of resident and fellow physicians in the nation and has representation and direct involvement in all levels of AMA governance and policy formation. The resident and fellow section of the AMA has been in existence since 1974. The mission of the AMA is to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health, by uniting physicians nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issues.
