ONE YEAR AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE, LMC TEAM HEADS BACK TO HAITI ON MEDICAL MISSION
January 26, 2011, Brooklyn, NY...Lutheran Medical Center and Columbia Presbyterian physicians have teamed up to host a two week medical mission to Adventist Hospital in Haiti. The team will be treating orthopedic trauma, residual problems and infections, along with basic needs of the community.
Leading this mission is Dr. Aldo Vitale, an LMC orthopedic surgeon, who is bringing along his two sons, also surgeons. The family's efforts were recently profiled in the New York Daily News. Also accompanying Dr. Vitale is Dr. Tom Lyon, physician chief of Orthopedic Trauma at LMC, who first visited Haiti in the weeks directly following the earthquake. Dr. Lyon gave a riveting first-hand account of his last visit. You can read about the work done at Hospital Eleazar Germain last January, as well as view media coverage here.
Additional staff members taking part in the medical mission include Allan Charleus, Shirley Dulay, Samy St. Armand Laurent, all OR technicians, as well as Kwame Ohemeng, M.D., and Ben Toure, M.D., both anesthesiologists.
