Earlier this month, Lutheran Family Health Centers (LFHC) opened the doors of its new Brooklyn-Chinese Family Health Center. In order to accommodate a significant increase in the demand for services, the Brooklyn-Chinese Family Health Center now occupies a 10,000 plus square foot location at 5008 7th Avenue in the heart of Brooklyn's Chinatown.

Twice the size of its predecessor, the new site offers substantially more clinical space to provide adequate health care services. The new center features ten exam rooms, a rehabilitation gym, a dental area with four dental chairs, medical offices and conference rooms. The expanded space also allows for an increase in staff to over 30 full-time health care workers.
The Brooklyn-Chinese Family Health Center was established by LFHC to meet the health care needs of the growing Asian population in southwest Brooklyn. For nearly ten years the center has been a leader in providing high-quality, affordable and culturally competent health care to the Asian-American community.
LFHC hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in October that was attended by more than 75 neighbors, patients, staff, community leaders and elected officials. Lead donors include King Fook Funeral Services, LLC; Manning's 8th Avenue Pharmacy, Inc., and Sunrise Medical Laboratories, Inc. Additional sponsors include Bay Ridge Medical Imaging, P.C.; IW Pharmacy, Inc.; Wan Sou Funeral Services; RX Circle Pharmacy Corp.; Family First Pharmacy & Surgical Supplies, Inc.; Sinog Medical Associates, P.C., and Comprehensive Care Management Corp.
Lutheran is also home to Brooklyn's only Chinese inpatient health care unit, designed to specifically meet the needs of one of the city's fastest growing ethnic groups. Sensitive to the cultural diversity of southwest Brooklyn, LMC opened the area's first Chinese health care unit in 2004. The unit offers multilingual doctors and medical staff available 24 hours a day to communicate with patients in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, Chinese meals prepared by a Chinese cook, culturally sensitive color schemes and health care staff trained in the beliefs and customs of their patients.
