LUTHERAN MEDICAL CENTER UNVEILS HOODA GERMACK SURGICAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Project made possible through City Council and HEAL NY funding, a gift from the hospital's Auxiliary and a $2 million donation from the estate of the late Hooda Germack, for which the unit has been named

June 23, 2011, Brooklyn, NY…
On June 22 LMC unveiled and dedicated the state-of-the-art Hooda Germack Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). At approximately 7,600 square feet, the new 10-bed unit features cutting edge technology and aesthetically pleasing rooms for Lutheran's trauma, surgical and critically ill patients. LMC staff, members of its Board of Trustees, the LMC Auxiliary and community leaders joined together for this event.

The spacious SICU features break-away glass doors and nurse "perches" for total visibility and access to all patients, brand new cardiac monitoring systems, a state-of-the-art medication dispensing system, a pneumatic tube delivery system for lab specimens as well as an on-call room for doctors, a family room and sizable individual patient rooms.

The $9.5 million project was funded in part through $1.6 million secured by New York City Council members Sara M. Gonzalez, Domenic M. Recchia, Jr., and Vincent J. Gentile (members of the Brooklyn Delegation), a special $2 million grant from the late Hooda Germack (a long time Bay Ridge resident and philanthropist), a $50,000 donation from the Lutheran Medical Center Auxiliary, and $13.2 million in HEAL NY Phase 7 funding that also will support major extensions of the hospital's Emergency Department.
