LUTHERAN MEDICAL CENTER ADDS MULTILINGUAL HOSPITALIST TO ROSTER
Myint Myint Aye, M.D., to build relationships with Asian physicians in the community
July 22, 2011, Brooklyn, NY
Lutheran Medical Center has appointed Myint Myint Aye, M.D., as the medical center's newest full-time hospitalist. The attending physician comes to Lutheran from New York Downtown Hospital where she served as a hospitalist and associate residency program director. Prior to her time with New York Downtown Hospital, Dr. Aye practiced and studied medicine in Yangon, Myanmar.
"Dr. Aye's expertise will greatly complement Lutheran's advanced cultural competency and will allow us to connect with even more physicians in the local Asian community," said Claudia Caine, hospital director, EVP and COO, Lutheran Medical Center. "The skills she brings with her are priceless as we aim to provide care to the city's fastest growing ethnic group."
Reflective of Lutheran's strong tradition of cultural competency, Dr. Aye is fluent in English, Mandarin and Burmese, and also speaks Cantonese. In this role she will work to create and build relationships specifically with Asian physicians in the community in order to better meet the needs of this rapidly expanding percentage of the community. Dr. Aye will act as a patient liaison, coordinating inpatient care at Lutheran while regularly communicating with each patient's primary care physician.
Dr. Aye is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine, American College of Physicians and the Myanmar Medical Association. She is ACLS/BLS certified and certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Aye was also the recipient of the Sukumaran Teaching Award at New York Downtown Hospital.
A fairly new term, hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is hospital medicine and are specially trained in the delivery of inpatient care. The hospitalist is a key component in the continuum of service provided by the Lutheran HealthCare network.
