LHC ANNOUNCES NEW ADDITIONS TO ITS BOARD OF TRUSTEES




July 28, 2011, Brooklyn, New York…
Lutheran HealthCare is pleased to announce four new members to its Board of Trustees: Richard Novak, Ed.D., John Nuzum, Randolph Peers and Gabriel Rincon, D.D.S.

Dr. Novak is associate vice president for Continuous Education and Distance Learning, and director of Special Projects for Academic Affairs, at Rutgers University. Novak is responsible for executive and policy leadership in Rutgers' continuing education units, distance learning and off-campus learning facilities. He also provides oversight and direction for RutgersOnline. Novak teaches in the Adult and Continuing Education graduate program in Rutgers' Graduate School of Education, and also in the graduate program in Human Resource Management at the School of Management and Labor Relations.

Mr. Nuzum is a longtime Brooklyn resident and former director and treasurer of Project Reach Youth, a community organization that helps low-income youth and families learn and grow through education, training and counseling. He is a board member of the Sunset Park Health Council, Inc., and former officer of the Park Slope Neighborhood Family Center. Nuzum earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Pennsylvania and in 2003 retired after 38 successful years with JPMorgan Chase.

Mr. Peers is the executive director of Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, a $4.8 million non-profit organization in Brooklyn specializing in providing education and employment services to out-of-school youth and adults. Prior to that, Peers was vice president for economic development at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. He is also the former chairperson of, and currently serves on, Community Board #7 in Brooklyn. He earned a master's degree in public administration from NYU's Wagner School of Public Service and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Brooklyn College.

Dr. Rincon, a native of Mexico, is the executive director, founder and president of the Board of Directors of Mixteca, a non-profit organization serving Mexican and Latino immigrants. He also helped found and serves as vice president of Mexican American Societies, is on the boards of the Sunset Park Lion's Club and the Sunset Park Health Council, Inc. He graduated from NYU's College of Dentistry and has a busy dental practice in Sunset Park.


"As a board, we are looking forward to ensuring we remain strong, and stay consistent and focused on the critical work the Lutheran HealthCare organizations do for our community," said Emma Graeber Porter, chair of the LHC Board of Trustees. "What really sets Lutheran apart and guides its course is the quality of its family, like these great civic-minded people that have joined us this year in fulfilling our 128-year-old mission to serve Brooklyn.
