LUTHERAN FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS HELPS FAMILIES GET READY FOR SCHOOL
Back to School Blast at Martin Luther Park provides health and wellness information

September 9, 2011, Brooklyn, NY…Lutheran Family Health Centers (LFHC) helped local children start the school year off on the right foot with its annual Back to School Blast, held at Martin Luther Park on September 2. The fair included important health information for children and their parents as well as fun activities such as face painting and jump rope.

Local organizations including the Champion Learning Center, Visiting Nurse Service of New York, Young Dancers in Repertory, Amerikicks Martial Arts Studio and more distributed information and giveaways to promote health and wellness in the new school year.

Some helpful tips to prepare your child to go back to school:
• Most schools require a physical exam within the last 12 months.
• During the physical exam, they will:
     o Make sure immunizations are up to date. Schools ask you show proof of required immunizations.
     o Screen for potential problems such as asthma or eating disorders
     o Screen for vision and hearing problems
     o Discuss issues that may be of concern to the parent or child
     o Provide you with necessary forms for participation in special activities: 
          · sports 
          · day care
          · after school program
