CITY COUNCIL MEMBER JUMAANE D. WILLIAMS VISITS CARIBBEAN-AMERICAN FAMILY HEALTH CENTER TO SUPPORT REACH OUT AND READ




WHO & WHAT:
Councilman Jumaane D. Williams will read aloud to children at Lutheran Family Health Centers' (LFHC) Caribbean-American Family Health Center. LFHC's Reach Out and Read program is coordinated by Lutheran Family Health Centers' Sunset Park AmeriCorps and HealthCorps programs. Councilman Williams will be reading in support of Reach Out and Read, a school readiness program which provides free books and literacy guidance to children when they visit their pediatricians for a checkup.

WHEN: Thursday, September 29, 2011
A short speaking program will begin at 11 a.m. featuring Traci Lester, executive director, Reach Out and Read of Greater New York, and LFHC staff, followed by a photo opp.

Reach Out and Read of Greater New York distributes books to over 272,000 children annually at 178 Reach Out and Read clinical locations throughout New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties.
