LUTHERAN FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS TO HOST WORLD AIDS DAY EVENT TO EDUCATE TEENS AND PROMOTE LEADERSHIP
"Brooklyn and Beyond" event aimed at educating teens to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS
In honor of World AIDS Day, the Lutheran Family Health Centers' Special Care Immunology Services (SCIS), an HIV/AIDS primary and specialty care program hosts an HIV education event at Erasmus Campus to educate teens on HIV/AIDS. Attendees include: ·
- Erasmus H.S. Campus Principal Leonard Kassan and more than 350 students
- Dr. Fernando Carnavali, Medical Director, SCIS, Lutheran Family Health Centers, medical staff, and peer advocates from within the Family Health Center network
- New York City Councilman Mathieu Eugene
- Christobal Jacques, Prevention Specialist, N.Y.C Department of Mental Health and Hygiene
- SUNY Downstate Medical Center HEAT Program representative
- HHC Jacobi's Hospital Adolescent Program representative
The Lutheran Family Health Centers host "Brooklyn and Beyond," an event aimed at raising awareness, educating teens, and promoting leadership to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Physicians from the Lutheran Family Health Centers, peer educators, and a prevention specialist from the N.Y.C Department of Mental Health and Hygiene, will provide information about HIV testing, share personal stories, and discuss their vision of adolescent health in Brooklyn.
The event will be held at Erasmus H.S. Campus, the most recent addition to the Lutheran Family Health Centers school health program. Since 1984, the Lutheran Family Health Centers network has operated the program which provides comprehensive medical, mental health and dental services in several schools. With 14 school health centers sites, it's the largest in New York.
Lutheran Family Health Centers' Special Care Immunology Services (SCIS) clinic is the only N.Y.S Department of Health Designated AIDS Center in southwest Brooklyn. Lutheran's SCIS program provides culturally sensitive, comprehensive HIV/AIDS medical and social services.

The Lutheran Family Health Centers (LFHC), based in Sunset Park, is a federally qualified community-based ambulatory health care system affiliated with Lutheran HealthCare. Governed by the Sunset Park Health Council, Inc., and serving southwest Brooklyn, LFHC is one of the largest health center networks in the country. With nine full-time community health centers, eight medical partnerships, 14 school-based health centers and community programs, including three WIC programs, adult and family literacy programs, three child care centers and a family wellness center, the network has served as Brooklyn's medical home for more than 40 years.
