WITH LIGHTS, CAMERAS AND ACTION, LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE'S 125TH ANNIVERSARY GALA RAISES $1.25 MILLION

May 20, 2008, Brooklyn, New York
Lutheran HealthCare's annual black tie event was a smash success attended by 850 partygoers who helped raise $1.25 million. The gala at Chelsea Piers celebrated Lutheran's 125th anniversary, helped raise critical funds to support the expansion of its Emergency Department Quick Care Program, and honored individuals who have made significant contributions to Brooklyn's health.
The 2008 honorees were Brett D. Yormark, president and CEO of Nets Sports and Entertainment, LLC, for his service and commitment to Brooklyn's future and the health network's medical and dental staff presidents: Dr. Salvatore J. Sclafani, Dr. Birendra Prasad, Dr. John B. Pannone, Dr. Roger W. Davenport, Dr. Joseph Rando, Dr. Steven W. Salvati, Dr. Raymond P. Girnys, Dr. Eugene Gibilaro, and Dr. Francisco A. Siguenza. Each president has consistently provided a solid foundation for growth and progress while ensuring our patients received the highest quality care at the same time.
"I am happy to have been part of Lutheran HealthCare's 125th anniversary gala," said Yormark. "I am very proud of the work the Nets organization accomplishes in the community and we look forward to developing a long-term relationship with such a venerable Brooklyn institution like Lutheran. I commend Lutheran on its ongoing achievement and first-class care. It is a community hospital that continues to impact the well-being of so many people and offers the best health services to its neighbors."
The packed event attracted a venerable who's who in New York including local elected officials and Sopranos star, Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts on the hit HBO show). Borough President Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn's biggest fan, mingled with guests and with a rousing speech proclaiming the high level achievements of the honorees, presented each with official Brooklyn certificates of appreciation. Standup comedian, actor, author, and filmmaker David Brenner, brought the audience to near tears with his comical take on current headlines and news stories.
Additional highlights included the Nets DrumLine, Nets mascot Sly, and a silent auction that included a one-on-one game against Nets guard and 8-time all star Vince Carter, VIP dinners and event tickets, a Parisian pied-à-terre, designer jewelry, sports memorabilia, and much more.
