LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE SETS RECORD RAISING $1.3 MILLION WHILE CELEBRATING AT PROHIBITION-ERA THEMED GALA
Over 900 supporters came to honor Jayanth V. Rao, M.D., Chair of Radiology, and Terence Winter, head writer, creator and executive producer of HBO's Boardwalk Empire

May 22, 2012, Brooklyn, NY…
Lutheran HealthCare's 129th Anniversary Dinner Dance, held on May 19 at Chelsea Piers' Pier Sixty, raised $1.3 million - a record amount of funds. This year's gala honored LMC Chair of Radiology, Jayanth V. Rao, M.D., and Terence Winter, creator, head writer and executive producer of HBO's award-winning series Boardwalk Empire.

The star-studded affair was attended by a who's who of Brooklyn elected officials including N.Y.S. Senator Diane Savino and N.Y.S. Senator Jeff Kline, along with Dr. Ruth Westheimer, and HBO stars including actors Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Dominic Chianese (Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos) and Tony Sirico (The Sopranos), legendary creator David Chase, and many more members of the cast and crew of Boardwalk Empire.

Hosted by Michael Gargiulo, anchor, WNBC 4, the night was filled with 1920s style cocktails and flapper girls, as well as a special performance by the Boardwalk Empire Performers. Top selling silent auction prizes included vacation packages around the world, tickets and travel to nationally televised award shows, sports memorabilia, a walk on role on Boardwalk Empire, the chance to ride on a VIP float in the Columbus Day Parade, and much more.

A special thank you to the evening's "Rum Runner" sponsors: the May Ellen and Gerald Ritter Foundation, TD Bank and the Mount Sinai Hospital. Thank you also to the "Prohibition" sponsors: Frenkel Benefits, HBO, Health Plus Amerigroup, NES Healthcare Group, RTR Financial Services and St. George's University. Proceeds from the evening will fund a new Neuro-catheterization Laboratory with a state-of-the-art biplane neuroangiogram suite, further advancing stroke care in Brooklyn.

Jayanth V. Rao, M.D., chair, Radiology, is presented with the Sister Elisabeth Fedde Medal of Service. He is photographed with Rick Chou, D.O., president, Medical and Dental Staff, Wendy Z. Goldstein, president and CEO, and Emma Graeber Porter, chair, Lutheran Medical Center Board of Trustees.
