LUTHERAN POWERS HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES WITH EVENTS THROUGHOUT NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK
August 16, 2012, Brooklyn, NY
August 5 to 11 marked National Health Center Week and this year's theme was "Celebrating America's Health Centers: Powering Healthier Communities." Lutheran commemorated National Health Center Week with a number of health fairs and activities for staff, patients and neighbors. The aim of this week-long campaign is to recognize the work done by American's health centers every day toward the goal of ensuring everyone has access to a medical home.
The celebrations kicked-off on Lutheran Lane with the "Healthy Living Within our Medical Homes" health fair featuring screenings, voter registration, fun games and giveaways, as well as visits from Councilwoman Sara M. Gonzalez and Mitu Maruf, community liaison, from the office of Assemblyman Felix Ortiz.
Additional events, hosted by Lutheran Family Health Centers, were held across southwest Brooklyn as well. The "Lucky Eight Health Fair," hosted by the Brooklyn-Chinese FHC and Family Physician FHC, featured screenings, games and giveaways at the Rainbow Playground on August 8. The Caribbean-American FHC promoted exercise and healthy living at the August 9 "Let's Move It" fair held at the Flatbush family health center site. The Park Ridge FHC also hosted an event on August 9 focused on "Keeping our Community Healthy."
