Lutheran Medical Center announces its 2013 Medical and Dental Staff officers. New leaders include (from left to right above) Naser Yazigi, M.D., president; John Trillo, M.D., vice president; George Fernaine, M.D., treasurer; and Ralph Ruggiero, M.D., secretary.
Dr. Yazigi's history at Lutheran dates back to 1990 when he completed his internal medicine residency at the hospital. Since then he has served as a full-time attending physician covering critical care service and also in private practice specializing in internal medicine, infectious diseases and critical care medicine. Dr. Yazigi has also served at Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital. He is the recipient of multiple teaching awards from Lutheran Medical Center including Teacher of the Year. Dr. Yazigi has been a member of the Medical and Dental Staff leadership for the last three years, serving as secretary, treasurer and vice president.
Dr. Trillo, a gastrointestinal and liver disease specialist, has been with Lutheran Medical Center since 2004. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterology Association, the Brooklyn Gastroenterology Association and the American Medical Association. Dr. Trillo has been a member of the Medical and Dental Staff leadership for two years, serving as secretary and treasurer.
Dr. Fernaine currently serves as the director of Interventional Cardiology. He has been with Lutheran Medical Center since 2007 and also currently serves as the associate director of the catheterization laboratory, medical director of cardiac rehabilitation and site director of the cardiology fellowship. This is Dr. Fernaine's first year serving as a Medical and Dental Staff officer.
Dr. Ruggiero is Lutheran's network chief of women's health. He has a long history at Lutheran dating back to 1980 when he served as an intern and completed his residency. Dr. Ruggiero has previously served at Richmond University Medical Center and New York Methodist Hospital as well as at private practices. This is Dr. Ruggiero's first year serving at a Medical and Dental Staff officer.
