LUTHERAN MEDICAL CENTER AUXILIARY APPOINTS 2013 LEADERS
Community members dedicated to serving patients, families and medical staff
February 7, 2013, Brooklyn, NY
The Lutheran Medical Center Auxiliary elected and installed new board and nominating committee members at a recent luncheon at Harbor Hill. The 114 member auxiliary appointed Margherita Clemento as president, Astrid Bjune as first vice president and Eleanor Petty as second vice president.

Ms. Clemento has been an auxiliary member since 2011. She is also an active member in the Bay Ridge Garden Club, Bay Ridge Professional Women and Richmond County Professional Women's Clubs. This is the first year that Ms. Clemento has held a leadership position in the auxiliary.
Ms. Bjune, a six year veteran of the auxiliary, has previously served as treasurer and as a special project volunteer and member of the annual fundraising committee. She was previously honored by the Bay Ridge Community Council as one of the "Hidden Treasures of the Community" for her work as a Lutheran volunteer and auxiliary member.
Ms. Petty, an auxiliary member since 2009, has previously served as first vice president. Ms. Petty is active in the local community as a member of the Dyker Heights Civic Association, Community Board 10, Bay Ridge Garden Club, and the McKinley-Leif Erickson Parks Alliance.
Former president, Jane Kelly, has taken on the role of nominating chairman. Ms. Kelly, a well-known leader in the Bay Ridge community, has served the auxiliary for over 20 years. She is also an active member in the Bay Ridge AARP, Bay Ridge Community Council, Bay Ridge Mental Health Association, State Committee on Delivery of Police Services to the Elderly and the Bay Ridge Council on Aging.
Additional appointments included Adelaide Johnson as treasurer, Muriel Niemi as recording secretary, Florence Schwer as corresponding secretary and Carol Hille as financial secretary. Members-at-large now include Lorraine Caramico and Corrinne Korn. All officers serve a two year term.
The Lutheran Medical Center Auxiliary is an integral part of the LMC family. Started in 1906, the auxiliary supports the work of the medical center through service-oriented projects and fundraising activities. The men and women of the auxiliary are dedicated to serving patients and their families, supporting medical center staff, helping with community relations, providing health services information and fundraising to support services for patients. Over the years, Lutheran's auxiliary has donated over $2 million to support the renovation of the surgical waiting area, the Emergency Department and recovery rooms, as well as the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit, an orthopedic fracture table, a cardiac monitoring system for the Telemetry Unit, a new ambulance and much more.
