LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE GOES RED FOR WOMEN
American Heart Month festivities bring heart disease awareness to Brooklyn

February 12, 2013, Brooklyn, NY…
In partnership with the American Heart Association, Lutheran HealthCare kicked off American Heart Month by participating in Go Red for Women Day.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women age 20 and over, taking the life of one in three women each year. Eighty percent of cardiac events in women may be prevented if they make the right choices for their hearts. One of the best ways to reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease is to follow these seven simple steps:
• Get active
• Eat better
• Lose weight
• Control your cholesterol
• Manage your blood pressure
• Reduce your blood sugar
• Stop smoking

Adapting healthy lifestyles can control many factors that lead to heart disease. Additionally, women and men alike should take advantage of preventative screenings to detect problems early. Speak to your primary care physicians to learn how you can start living healthier. If you would like to find a health center in your neighborhood, or a referral to one of our physicians close to your home, call 718-630-RXRX (7979).
