Lutheran Epilepsy Center offers complete care in eliminating or reducing seizures in adults and adolescents with epilepsy and other seizure disorders. Our interdisciplinary team of caring professionals provides patients and their families with individualized attention, focusing on caring for the whole person coping with epilepsy and its complications. We proudly provide:
- Complete and accurate diagnosis
using sophisticated diagnostic techniques along with a full evaluation of the social, behavioral and cognitive aspects of the seizure disorder
using traditional as well as newer antiepileptic drugs
to determine the extent of any possible brain injury
- Specialized care for women.
Women face special considerations when it comes to seizure disorders. For instance, some women's seizures may vary based on their menstrual cycle or hormonal fluctuations during menopause. Before and during pregnancy, it is important to make the right decisions about epilepsy treatment. Our experts work with you every step of the way, to ensure you get complete comprehensive care when you need it.

Special monitoring units and highly trained staff provide a comfortable and safe environment for inpatients. Outpatients enjoy a comfortable facility complete with the latest diagnostic equipment
Medicare, Medicaid and most other major insurances accepted. For patiens without insurance, a sliding fee scale is available.

Orrin Devinsky, M.D., director, is a world-renowned expert in epilepsy and the treatment of seizure disorders. He graduated from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship at Beth Israel Medical Center, his residency at New York Hospital and a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Devinsky serves as a professor of neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry at the NYU Langone Medical Center and is a published author of more than 300 research articles. |

Ruben Kuzniecky, M.D., brings vast experience and extensive knowledge to the Lutheran Epilepsy Center. Along with his work at Lutheran, he currently serves as co-director of the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and director of epilepsy research. He trained in neurology, epilepsy, and EEG at the Montreal Neurologic Institute, McGill University, Canada. He has authored more than two hundred books, chapters, and journal articles on epilepsy, and has received epilepsy research grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH) as well as numerous foundations. He is Co-PI of the epilepsy phenome genome project, the largest epilepsy genetic study of its type funded by NIH. |

Amit Ray, M.D., completed his medical education in Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India, and trained in neurology at the University of Chicago. Subsequently, he went on to complete 2 years of fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology, adult and pediatric epilepsy at the University of Chicago and the Cleveland Clinic, OH.

Blanca Vazquez, M.D., who specializes in the treatment of women with epilepsy, will serve as an integral part of the Lutheran Epilepsy Center team of experts. She received her doctorate from Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. She did her residencies in internal medicine and neurology at St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, respectively, Dr. Vazquez completed an epilepsy fellowship at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at New York University Medical Center. |
