Lutheran's Spine Services program offers minimally invasive spine surgery techniques, including:
- Microscopic diskectomy and endoscopic diskectomy
with laser technology
- Cervical decompressions and complex reconstruction
- Large scale correction of scoliosis and other deformity,
including revision surgery and revision fusion
- Spinal fusion for disk disease
- Degenerative spondylolisthesis or spinal instability,
with sciatica or radiation into the arms or legs
- Injuries of the spine, from whiplash to spinal fractures
with spinal cord injury
- Spine tumors, primarily not metostatic

Medicare, Medicaid and most insurances are accepted. If you do not have insurance, the amount you pay will be determined on a sliding fee scale which is a discounted rate based on how much money you make or do not make.

Michael Gerling, M.D., is a board certified orthopedic and spine surgeon. He specializes in using minimally invasive techniques to treat degenerative and disk-related diseases of the spine, as well as other conditions. Dr. Gerling conducted his medical training at the University of California, San Diego. He did his internship and residency at Ochsner Health Systems in New Orleans and his fellowship at Case Western University, where he was trained by the well-known spine surgeon Henry Bohlman, M.D. He joined Lutheran Medical Center in April 2009. "Lutheran is very patient-care oriented," he says. "And the fact that the orthopedics department was rated number one in Brooklyn by HealthGrades for the third year in a row speaks for itself." |

William Wirchansky, M.D., is a skilled neurosurgeon who joined Lutheran in October 2009. Dr. Wirchansky earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. He did his internship and residency in the Department of Neurosurgery at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Wirchansky treats such conditions as brain tumors, aneurysms and head and spine trauma, among others. "I enjoy the overall collegial atmosphere among the medical staff at Lutheran and feel privileged to serve the diverse patient population," says Dr. Wirchansky. |
