Lutheran's Perioperative Conference A Huge Success

The Power of Perioperative Nursing…It's Not Just the OR! was held at the New York Marriott Marquis (in Times Square) and attracted more than 250 attendees from 44 hospitals from all five boroughs as well as other areas of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Headlining the event was William Duffy, R.N., M.J., C.N.O.R., current vice president of nursing for Evanston Hospital and former president of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses.

Participants learned about best practices, safety and teamwork and the importance of each and every nurse. Featuring speakers from Tennessee, Florida, Missouri and Illinois and 18 vendors/sponsors, the conference was an overwhelming success.




The lighting of the Caring Candle during the opening ceremony. It was later extinguished at the close of the conference. The candle symbolized the nurses' commitment to caring for patients and each other. On the right is Elaine Meyerson, R.N., MA, director of nursing recruitment and retention at Lutheran Medical Center, in the middle is Rosanne Raso, R.N., MS, CNAA, SVP nursing services at Lutheran Medical Center, and on left is Agnes Cappabianca R.N., nurse manager, Ortho/Neuro/Stroke, at Lutheran Medical Center.
