2009: The Year of the Blood Donor at Lutheran Medical Center
Blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months due to the holidays, travel schedules, weather and illness. January, in particular, is a difficult month for centers to collect donations. A reduction in turnout can put our nation's inventory at a critical low, but by donating regularly (every 56 days), you are helping to ensure that blood is always available when needed.
Donations made in Lutheran's Blood Center, however, serve two significant purposes: 1 – your donation stays here in Brooklyn, it really will help save a friend, family member or a neighbor. 2 – during national blood shortages and times when supplies are low, hospitals not only must purchase blood from area blood centers, but also can be subjected to blood rationing.
Walk-ins are welcome at the Lutheran Medical Center blood donor room. Located at 150 55th Street in Sunset Park, it's open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information please contact Phyllis Holvik at 718-630-8900.
